Information

The Monterey Superior Court’s Self-Help Center offers workshops about family law matters including divorce, child custody, support and visitation. All workshops are conducted by the Family Law Facilitator, a Staff Attorney, or a Paralegal.

The Self-Help Center also offers DOCUMENT REVIEWS to review your filled-out court forms before you file them, to identify any mistakes or missing forms, and to avoid paperwork returns from the court.

Children are not allowed at the WORKSHOPS or DOCUMENT REVIEWS. The information discussed is usually inappropriate for children.

IF YOU HAVE AN APPOINTMENT, you must check in with the Self-Help Center front desk at least 10 minutes prior to your appointment time. Otherwise, the appointment will be given to someone on the waiting list.

Who We Are

Self Help Centers can assist with filling out paperwork and understanding court processes. However, the staff at these centers do not give legal advice or provide legal representation. This is because they are open to everyone in a community and must be able to provide help to both parties in a court case. Self Help Centers are a great option for people who are representing themselves in court or when they aren't eligible for legal aid.
