Who We Are
Free legal information and 20-minute consultation through Lawyers in the Library Program.
Lawyers in The Library (FREE)
Volunteer attorneys offer legal information and referrals at 20-minute consultations on alternate months at the Sonoma County Public Law Library and Sonoma County Library.
Attorneys offer legal information only. They do not provide specific legal advice and should not be considered personal lawyers. Participants sign a waiver stating the consultation does not establish an attorney-client relationship. Sign up in-person 30 minutes before the program starts. Space is limited.
Language translation services are not available for this program; participants are welcome to bring their own interpreter. Participants may also bring support persons, family members, or other affiliated persons to meet with the attorney together.
For deaf and hard-of-hearing participants, the Sonoma County Bar Association will arrange for ASL interpretation with at least two days’ notice.
30-minute consultations and lawyer referrals:
For official lawyer referral services, there is a $100 non-refundable intake fee. This also includes an initial consultation with an attorney, up to 30 minutes.

This referral service does not provide a list of pro bono attorneys. Referrals are to qualified private practice attorneys in the referral service network.
This service offers a Modest Means Program for clients with limited resources. Qualified applicants will be referred to a lawyer who will provide a consultation, up to 30 minutes. If hired, they have agreed to charge a reduced hourly fee of $175, $200 or $225, depending on the applicant’s household size and gross monthly income. Our Modest Means attorneys agree to this reduced rate for at least one year from the date of hire. After that initial year, it’s up to the attorney and client to agree upon the cost of services going forward.
