Who We Are
The Contra Costa Public Defender's Office offers a clean slate and reentry program. The clean slate program may be able to offer you dismissal of conviction, Prop 47 and Prop 64 relief, reduction of felony to misdemeanor, certificae of rehabilitation, juvenile record sealing, drug diversion record sealing, and legal advice regarding voting rights and jury service rights post-conviction. See the website for additional office locations in Richmond, Martinez, and Walnut Creek.
A public defender is a qualified attorney licensed by the State Bar of California, assigned by the court to provide legal help to individuals who cannot afford to hire a lawyer. Some public defender offices offer more than just representation during criminal cases; they also provide valuable post-conviction help, such as record improvement. Record improvement may help when you're applying for certain kinds of jobs or housing because it can change how arrests and convictions appear on background checks.
