Who We Are

California Indian Legal Services provides representation on Federal Indian law issues, which may include child welfare, land issues, student rights, cultural resource protection, housing, and public benefits due to Native American Indian monies. However, even when representation is not provided, CILS will strive to assist individuals and tribal organizations through dissemination of self-help packets, trainings and other valuable resources.

Income Guidelines

For free legal services Income must be less than 125% of the poverty level as set by the yearly Federal Poverty Income Guidelines. Also possible assistance for those with income less than 200% of the poverty level if certain expenses are present.

Eligibility Restrictions

Non income eligible individuals, tribes and tribal organizations may be offered fee-paying contracts if their legal issues fall within CILS priorities set by our Board of Trustees
