Who We Are
This Center operates 1-800-VICTIMS, a toll-free number that victims can call to receive free legal information and referrals. The toll-free number has become a core service for California victims, victim service providers, attorneys and non-attorney victim advocates and others seeking information about victims' rights and services. Law students under the supervision on attorneys assist victims of all crime in navigating the criminal and juvenile systems; they provide information on Marsy's Law (California Constitution's Victim Bill of Rights), victim compensation, victim/witness assistance centers, and an array of statewide crime victim services. The Center provides free legal representation to victims in Sacramento County.

Determined on a case-by-case basis, the Victims of Crime Resource Center may be able to offer limited representation to victims of crime. Through this service, victims will be able to receive assistance from attorneys in exercising their rights at various stages in the criminal justice process (pre-trial, trial and post-trial).  Our mission is to seek to protect victims’ rights in the following areas:

  • Information and notice of the criminal proceeding
  • Be treated fairly and with respect
  • Be present during criminal proceedings
  • Be heard by the judge through a victim’s impact statements
  • Seek protection from harassment or intimidation,
  • Privacy,
  • Prompt disposition of the case, and
  • Restitution for economic loss to the victim
